WW Milk Chocolate Digestive Biscuits

From Paul Young's Pecan Brownie to Weight Watchers chocolate digestive biscuits.  All in a day's work for a chocolate reviewer! Both products could not be further apart in terms of calorie counting or maybe flavour.
Perhaps I'm doing this biscuit a disfavour?  Like many people I'm partial to the odd digestive biscuit and on really special occasions I splash out and buy some chocolate digestives. Unfortunately, for me these are usually gobbled up by the rest of the family before I have even had chance to have one myself.  I have had the opportunity to taste and review some biscuits from Weight Watchers before and they were ok but didn't really grab me as a replacement for a good old traditional digestive.  I have been on a diet for the past 6 months losing several pounds and have now returned to what I'd call normal eating, however, minus the biscuits and crisps. So, for me this might be an option.

In terms of packaging you have all the dietary information you'll ever need right before your eyes. A pack contains 12 biscuits and each biscuit (51 calories per biscuit) is worth one Pro Point. Perhaps the best thing about the packaging is the resealable pack which does exactly what says. I tested this several times opening and closing the pack until I lost interest and each time it resealed itself.

Milk Chocolate Digestives
The biscuit itself is a lot smaller than the traditional chocolate biscuit and is wafer thin by comparison. But, we must not forget that we're on a diet!  It has a good chocolate aroma and a "Rich Tea" biscuit crunch about it. There is also sufficient chocolate covering the biscuit to keep the mouth feel moist and provide sufficient sweetness with a good taste of oats.  There is an after taste at the end but nothing overpowering.  It also passes the tea dunking test, my biscuit lasted an unofficial 8 seconds before disintegrating!

Overall, I think Weight Watchers have found a good recipe for this biscuit which is a great improvement on their last attempt, 8/10.  New Weight Watchers Milk Chocolate Digestive Biscuits have a RRP of £1.59 for a pack of 12 and are currently listed in Morrisons and independent retailers across the country.  You know you're not eating the real McCoy but you're not feeling hard done by either because it actually tastes good.

The only problem is that other people in your family might also agree...find a good hiding place!

WeightWatchers - Chocolate Biscuits

Salad has featured high on my menu choices this week having indulged rather heavily over the past two weeks. Obviously, there have been moments when chocolate cravings have got the better of me so these Weight Watchers chocolate biscuits have arrived at the right moment.

According to the PR literature provided by Golley Slater, Weight Watchers has answered the prayers of chocolate lovers everywhere with a gorgeously decadent Belgian Milk Chocolate Biscuit.  The mouth-watering, crunchy chocolate biscuits are smothered in a thick helping of real Belgian milk chocolate - ideal for satisfying even the biggest chocolate cravings! Each biscuit is individually wrapped offering a perfect portion-controlled chocolate fix to eat on the go, at your desk as an afternoon pick me up or with friends. The pictures on the packaging are certainly encouraging!

There are 5 chocolate biscuits individually wrapped which is a nice touch. Unfortunately, the chocolate is not bright as presented in the picture but looks as though it has suffered from temperature damage. This occurs when chocolate is subjected to sudden changes in temperature. Certainly nothing to worry about! The chocolate has a reasonable cocoa aroma and is certainly crunchy. The chocolate is not as thick as I'd imagined but we are talking about a healthy snack here. Well that's two biscuits done and dusted in quick succession. There isn't a huge amount of flavour, probably due to the minute amount of salt, but what I'm pleased about is there is no nasty after taste that was present in the chocolate cookies I reviewed previously. They're certainly going down nicely with my cup of tea.

Each Weight Watchers Chocolate Biscuit (18g) has a ProPoints value of just 2 and 89 calories, plus each biscuit is free from hydrogenated vegetable oils, artificial colourings or flavourings and Genetically Modified Organisms. Yes, I've spelt that correctly, phew! Each biscuit contains 5.4g sugars; 4.2g fat; 2g saturates and 0.1g salt. How many ProPoints are you allowed each day?

Overall I can say that these were fairly enjoyable snacks, not exciting but if I were on a diet then they would be a good answer to those chocolate cravings. These biscuits have a RRP of £1.59 for a pack of five and are available from ASDA, Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose.

Double Choc Chip Cookies

To date I've completed 100 reviews of various chocolate bars and chocolate related matters. So, it is ironic and not without some trepidation that my next review should be a Weight Watchers chocolate product. Well it does have chocolate in it so I think I can include it in this blog. I'm sure we've all heard of Weight Watchers and many of you are probably visiting a weekly 'weigh in' as I write this review. I have to admit that my last visit was probably over 20 years ago and I possibly still have their record book somewhere.

Until now I hadn't realized that it is a global business with Weight Watchers in a variety of countries. Even though I have a good friend who works for them I didn't realise that the company originated from the United States, New York, to be exact over 45 years ago. I always thought it was an English company! According to their website they are the leading weight loss experts teaching people how to lose weight and keep it off. Maintaining the motivation and desire to keep that weight off has always been my Achilles heel. For some people it probably has become a way of life continually controlling calorie intake and worrying about fat content, etc, etc. That's probably why their weekly meetings have been the basis of their initial success as a company. Bringing like minded people together with a common aim to lose those inches without resorting to drastic surgery!

I imagine their points system came about at one of those Eureka moments. It is a simple to understand system which doesn't require the person to have A-Level maths to work out how to use it. The points system has been upgraded recently to ProPoints. To quote, "The ProPoints plan is our most flexible and liveable plan ever, designed to fit around real life - your life - so that weight loss becomes part of your day-to-day routine."

Ok, enough about the company let's taste some of their product.

The Choc Chip Cookie: The pack contains 6 x 19g packs and each pack contains two cookies. Each serving (2 cookies) contains 87 calories, 4.4g of sugar, 3.5g fat, 0,9g of saturates and 0.2g salt. A pack of 2 cookies equates to 2 Propoints.
Weight Watchers - Double Choc Chip Cookies
I will not list all the ingredients but the main ones are Wheat Flour; Oat Flakes; Vegetable Oils; Sugar and Chocolate Chips. This product is suitable for vegetarians and is a source of fibre. The cookies are crunchy, very light and considerably different to the cookies I'm used to eating! There is definitely not a lot of chocolate which I suppose you would expect. Unfortunately, it is missing that all important magical ingredient we call flavour. The oats and wheat provide a good texture but this is quickly followed by a strange after taste that I can't get to the bottom of. It is quite off putting and I'm struggling to eat a whole biscuit. On the plus side you have six handy size snacks that can be eaten any time of the day. Unfortunately, this Weight Watchers product is not for me.

The Weight Watchers Cookie range offers five other delicious flavours for you to choose from including Double Choc Chip, Ginger and Lemon, Oat Digestive, Cranberry & Orange and Toffee. They have a RRP of £1.09 and are available from a variety of stores - Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Waitrose. This product may not have been to my liking but their website is full of useful information including recipes, fitness and health, how to find your nearest meeting place, prices and lots lots more.  To visit their site click here.

The diet will not be starting just yet!
