Just Going Nuts for Nuts!

Just Nuts! This bar is probably my best seller together with the more traditional fruit and nut which always triggers off the theme tune to that famous advert.  Those of a younger age will not remember or have even heard of the 'fruit and nut' advert, follow the link.  Anyway nuts have formed a very important part of our diets for years and years.  As a nation we just love nuts you only have to look on the high street.  We just love them.

This particular bar of chocolate contains the following nuts: Brazils, cashews, almonds, peanuts and hazelnuts packed full of healthy goodness.

Brazil Nuts:  The creamy colour indicates that these nutty nuts are high in fats. Native Amazonians have always held these in high regard as they are a great source of protein and other nutrients. Selenium is found in large quantities and provides protection against coronary heart disease.

Cashews: The cashew nut is mildly sweet and at the same time crunchy. Like Brazil nuts they are particularly high in calories.  Packed with vitamins and health promoting minerals. Contains Selenium, copper and zinc. Cashews make a great snack but avoid the salted varieties if you can.

Almonds:  An almond is technically the seed of the fruit of the Almond Tree but we all refer to it as a nut.  Almonds are high in mono-unsaturated fats, the same type of healthy fats that are found in olive oil.  They are rich in magnesium, a mineral that helps with the body's blood flow. Potassium, an electrolyte, is also found in large quantities aiding nerve transmission.

Peanuts:  Since ancient times peanuts have been high on our food lists as they are rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acids that help lower 'bad cholesterols' in the body. This helps lower the possibility of a heart attack or a stroke. The nuts are also an excellent source of Vitamin E.

Hazelnuts:  Incredibly nutritious and sweet in taste they are derived from the 'birch' family of trees. Hazelnut oil can be extracted and is used as a base for many medicines. Apart from being rich in energy they also provide dietary fibre or roughage which helps to relieve constipation. Lovely...

The Chocolate:  Apparently chocolate is No 29 in the top 50 list of 'Things that make us Happy', click here to see the full breakdown. Closely followed by eating cake!  Well there is always one 'bad boy' in the group and I'm afraid milk and white chocolates are high-fat and high-calorie foods unless you eat dark chocolate. You might have to consider sharing your chocolate. I know its unthinkable but it might help to share out the calories.
Palette Cleanser!

The Apple:  There is no apple in my chocolate bar but I recommend that you enjoy an apple or two each day especially at this time of year when the English crop is at its best.

It is recommended that all food items are eaten in moderation as even nuts can be fattening if eaten by the Kilo!
